Bib pickup: ID now mandatory

Since September 1, 2026, a new rule from the French Athletics Federation applies to all running competitions. It will therefore also affect participants in the Trail du Grand Ballon. When picking up your bib, you must now be able to prove your identity. This measure is notably intended to prevent bib swaps or resales between participants without an official registration change. In practical terms, what changes? When collecting bibs, proof of identity matching the name on the registration must be presented. The regulations also recall an essential principle: each participant must run under their own identity and with the bib officially assigned to them. This check is particularly important for safety reasons. In the event of emergency service intervention or an accident on the course, the information associated with the bib number must match the person wearing it. Do you want to transfer your bib? Therefore, do not simply give your bib to another person. The change of participant must strictly be made before the race, via our transfer procedure, so that the new runner is properly registered. So remember: for your next Trail du Grand Ballon, remember to bring your proof of identity to collect your bib.

What is the PPS and do I need to get one to participate?

The Health Prevention Pass (PPS) is a participation certificate issued by the French Athletics Federation. It applies to adult participants who do not hold an accepted FFA licence for competition. To obtain it, go to pps.athle.fr : create your account, complete the health and sports practice awareness module, then pay the required amount. The pass is valid for one year and can be used for several races during this period. You can register for a race before obtaining or renewing your PPS. However, it must be valid on the day of the event for you to take the start. For an adult participant without an accepted licence, a medical certificate alone does not replace the PPS.

Is my athletics license enough to participate?

Accepted Answer

Yes, if you hold a license issued by the French Athletics Federation that is valid on the day of the race. In this case, you do not need to obtain a PPS. FFA Athlé Santé and Athlé Encadrement licenses do not allow you to participate in a competition. Foreign athletics licenses are not accepted as proof either. If you do not have one of the three accepted FFA licenses, you will need to present a valid PPS. The license or PPS does not exempt you from complying with the participation conditions specific to the chosen distance, in particular the minimum age indicated in its regulations.
